Airsoft Gun Safety

Airsoft is an increasingly popular sport that uses realistic-looking toy guns that use compressed air or gas to fire pellets.  Classic army and airsoft sniper rifles are two popular types of airsoft guns.  Examples of popular airsoft games are Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, and Team Deathmatch.

Of course, airsoft guns can still be a safety hazard, even though they are not real guns.  Therefore airsoft gun safety guidelines must be followed.  For example:

  • Always treat every gun like it is loaded and potential dangerous.  Even if it’s not a real gun, it can still hurt you, so handle airsoft guns carefully and keep them pointed down, even if you believe they are not loaded.
  • Always keep your gun pointed down at the ground or aimed at a target.  You don’t want it to go off when it is pointed at something you don’t intend to shoot!
  • Always wear eye protection, and make sure everyone nearby is wearing it too.  Airsoft guns may be just toys, but they still pose a significant hazard to people’s eyes.
  • Use the safety catches on your guns, disengaging them only when it’s time to shoot.  However, you shouldn’t depend on them — even when the safety is on, treat the gun like it’s not.
  • Always unloaded the ammunition when you are done playing with your airsoft guns.  They should never be stored with tension on the mechanism or ammo in the gun, as this poses a safety risk.

For the most part, airsoft gun safety just means using common sense.  Make sure you take care of your guns, yourself, and anyone who handles them or is around you when you handle them, and you should be just fine!
