Sometimes People With Baby Girls Are So Snooty!

j0178603I was a baby girl once myself.  And as a little girl growing up, I and my friends were often quite jealous of the cooler toys that boys got.  Plus, they didn’t have to have their hair pulled up in ponytails, and they didn’t wear skirts and slippery shoes.  Don’t get me wrong, I adored some of my more pretty dresses, shoes, purses and dolls.  And then I became a teen obsessed with my body image and wanting to look as feminine as possible—which really isn’t the most healthy thing in the world.

So I am perplexed by moms or moms-to-be that don’t like to accept hand-me-down boy toys or infant bibs and jammies that suggest boys.  My sister in-law is expecting her third child unexpectedly, having long ago given away all of her older boys’ baby things.  But she’s thrilled that she’s getting a girl this time.  My baby is a year old now, so I gave her a few things.  Now, I knew better than to offer athletic socks, sports jackets or other obviously boyish things.  But I thought blue crib bedding might be useful in case the little girl made messy in her baby girl bedding.  I thought a little girl might still like a stuffed baseball, and who can’t use blue, barely used and not stained bibs, even just to keep in the car for extras?  Or slightly boyish sweat pants? Well, apparently my sister-in-law can’t.

If you ask me, some of these mothers are already setting up their girls to be little prima donnas.
