Americans have a tendency to discard the past too quickly. It’s a better idea to preserve the best old buildings and make them green so they’ll last a long time into the future.

Fixing up old buildings and making sure that they’re green makes a lot more sense to than constantly tearing down existing buildings to make room for new ones that aren’t usually as good as what they’re replacing.

Reduce, reuse, recycle. That’s got to be the mantra for the human race for the next few centuries. Restoring old buildings and “greening” them makes more sense that building totally new ones.

Knowing how to restore old things and extend their life is going to be an increasingly useful skill in the future as we all run out of resources.
