Add Value to Old Things

A lot of people love shiny new things bursting with the most advanced modern technology available today. I’m not one of those people. I happen to love old things but I like them best when they’ve been updated in some way so that they’re not just junk but have become vintage items.
Examples of adding value to old things might be:
- Working some sewing magic. Old clothes can be turned into amazing new clothes if they’re sewn in a way that makes the cut of the item more up-to-date.
- Making things eco-friendly. For example, some people get leeds certification to work on leed existing buildings which refers to bringing old buildings up-to-date in terms of green technology and practices.
- Restorations. A really common way to turn old stuff into fresh stuff is to restore it back to its original glory. Old cars and old pieces of furniture are examples of how restoration can repair an old piece.
In all of these cases, the original item is still intact and makes up the bulk of the piece but the entire thing has been updated and freshened up. This saves items from the landfill and allows you to bring a little bit of history into your home.

Knowing how to restore old things and extend their life is going to be an increasingly useful skill in the future as we all run out of resources.

Reduce, reuse, recycle. That’s got to be the mantra for the human race for the next few centuries. Restoring old buildings and “greening” them makes more sense that building totally new ones.

Fixing up old buildings and making sure that they’re green makes a lot more sense to than constantly tearing down existing buildings to make room for new ones that aren’t usually as good as what they’re replacing.

Americans have a tendency to discard the past too quickly. It’s a better idea to preserve the best old buildings and make them green so they’ll last a long time into the future.
