Shopping with Mom »

When I was a little girl I loved going shopping with my mother. We would leave my dad and brothers at home and go do our girly thing together. The joy of this event didn’t last long, though. It turned out that I developed a style of my own early on. It was a style that didn’t suit my mother and one that caused us a lot of mutual grief on shopping trips over the years.

I am happy to say that this has finally changed. As we’ve both gotten older, Mom and I have mellowed out a little bit. As a teenager, I’d rebel against anything that she wanted me to buy. These days, I sometimes take her advice because it’s good advice. And sometimes I take it just because I know it makes her happy. And of course, she’s less likely to pick and prod at me over particular products now that I’m an adult.

We recently went shopping for new lights for my home. I wanted her to come with me because I don’t know a lot about buying light fixtures. I was fairly certain that I wanted access lighting but I didn’t know what types of lighting would really make my home look best. Mom suggested that we check out Schonbek. Mom was right. Again. We got great products and had a wonderful time, something I’m going to be reminded of every time I see the new lights in my home. It’s one of the best things about growing up.

Acronyms and the Language of Education »

Have you ever noticed that education has its own language? Sure you actually learn your schooling in the language that you speak. However there are words and phrases and acronyms that are used in school that you don’t use very many places. Careers also have their own languages at times so educational settings may have their own language as well as the second language of the career.

Take for example the industry of being a physician’s assistant. This career uses certain acronyms that people outside of the career field might not recognize. PA is short for physician’s assistant, of course. You might also hear DPT which relates to physical therapy.

Now let’s look at the education of the students who go into this career. You will hear them talk about taking online pa programs and participating in transitional dpt programs. They are adopting the language of the career. You will also hear about them taking finals, for example. That’s an education term; you don’t hear that outside of the classroom. Someone who is taking a final in his pa class is taking the last class of the semester in his physician’s assistant studies.

Do you know the language of the field in which you plan to work and study?

A Great Smile is an Important First Impression »

smile-artist One of the most common topics taught in sales school is that the first impression you make can determine how the deal will go.  If that first impression is bad, usually the final outcome of that situation is bad as well.  In many of these situations, something as simple as bad teeth can result in failure.

But all is not lost, especially if you come to my DC cosmetic dentist clinic.  We pride ourselves as smile artists, and we can change any smile (no matter how bad) into a stunning one that will make the best impression possible.

In fact, over the past couple of years, we have seen an increasing number of business people come through our doors, looking for that extra edge that we can provide when it comes to making an impression.  In fact, most people could use a little bit of alterations to their smile to change it from mundane to a masterpiece.

This year alone we will help thousands of our clients grab the attention of their clients, spouses, and friends through us working our artistic talents to craft them an amazing smile.  I like to think that we are brightening up the world one smile at a time.

Would You Wear a Mask to Help You Breathe? »

breatheThousands and thousands of people suffer from a sleep condition known as sleep apnea. This condition causes them to stop breathing many times throughout the night. This can lead to a number of different health problems (some of which can be very serious). Luckily it’s a condition that is fairly easy to treat. You can use CPAP masks and other CPAP equipment right in your own home in order to help you breathe at night if you’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Sadly, though, a lot of people who have this condition fail to use the proper equipment to help them sleep at night.

Many people don’t believe that their condition is as serious as doctors say that it is. Since they are asleep when the breathing issues occur, they don’t notice the problem. Therefore they don’t take it seriously. But think of it this way … if you stopped breathing hundreds of times each day while you were awake, wouldn’t you do something about this problem? Wouldn’t you be happy to wear a breathing mask to help you breathe properly all day long? It’s the same thing when you’re asleep! The help that you need is out there if you’re just willing to use it.
