I Fell in Love With the South

When I visited Tennessee for my two sons’ Destination Imagination competition, I fell in love with the South. I’m a California girl, but I’m so tired of western or Mexican themed things that I could just spit! I really want to go back some day.
We stayed at the University of Tennessee both times we were there, but we didn’t get to see an awful lot. We drove from the Nashville airport to Knoxville, and that made me pretty curious to see more. My sons and I stopped and had a full southern breakfast, complete with grits! But of course, there is so much more! The only real attraction we visited besides Dollywood was President Andrew Jackson’s home.
Now I want to go to the heart of the South: Atlanta. Oh, I know it’s a big city like any other, but I think from there that I can branch off to really experience southern culture. I’m looking at Atlanta hotels right now. The only other time I’ve been to Atlanta was through the airport, where I got to taste “sweet tea” for the first time. Other than that, I’ve really only visited the French Quarter and Bourbon Street in New Orleans, but you really can’t call that experiencing the South.
