How to Write a Relationship Book

Books on relationships often do well in the market because every reader out there seems to be looking for relationship advice. Because of this, the budding writer might be interested in writing one of those books so that he or she can obtain recognition in the industry as well as a modicum of financial success.

If you’re in that position, here are some tips for writing a good relationship book:

• Find a narrow focus. A book as general as "how to have a happy relationship" isn’t going to get attention because there are too many like it already. Identify a niche in the relationship market and fill it with a specific book.
• Answer a question. Figure out what the central question is within your niche and use your book to answer that question.
• Consult experts. People want to see that someone with experience in relationships supports this work so include interviews with relationship experts in the book.
• Include analogies. People like reading stories. Even if your book is on the academic side, include "true life stories" to generate some warmth and interest from your readers.

Of course, writing the book is only half the battle. Once it’s done, you’ll need to market it like crazy so that it stands out in the sea of other relationship books that are out there!
