Ways for Online Colleges to Find More Potential Students

Did you know that online colleges have to actively seek potential students?
Most people think of marketing as something that only retailers and service-oriented businesses need to do — not institutions such as schools. We are used to being inundated by advertisements: weekly grocery store mailings, coupons and commercials for local retailers, and commercials for services such as carpet cleaning, automotive repair, and just about anything else you can think of.
But if you pay a little bit closer attention, you will realize that there are also many advertisements — in newspapers and magazines, on billboards, and on radio and TV — for higher education. All schools, whether they offer traditional or online degrees, need to make themselves known if they are to attract students.
Because online college degrees have become so popular in recent years, the Internet is a particularly popular place for colleges to advertise. Here’s how this usually works:
- A link advertising your school is displayed on a website where visitors are likely to be interested in your degree(s)
- A visitor clicks on the link, and is taken to a new page with a web form
- The web form prompts the visitor to enter their contact information and other important data, such as their level of education and what subject(s) they are interested in studying
- The information is forwarded to your admissions personnel
Online colleges can’t just wait for potential students to find them. Purchasing education leads allows you to pursue potential students, helping them make their decision — or at least making sure that if they make the decision to enroll later on, your school is their first choice.
