I am a physician assistant who has an interest in teaching.  I have acquired a lot of clinical experience over the years and feel I have a lot to offer to students entering the profession.  The health care profession keeps growing  and the trend towards medical specialization keeps growing, which means there will be more practitioners needed, and they have to keep up with developments in their areas.  Things have certainly changed since I first entered the profession.

I found a distance learning school that looks like it has what I need.  The Arizona School of Health Sciences Online Programs include a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, which has an Education and Leadership track that is intended for those in the profession who want to become educators.  I don’t think someone who is a good clinician is necessarily a good teacher.  There are different skills required, and you need to be trained properly for each.

A friend of mine took an Advanced Occupational Therapy Online program at the same school and came away very pleased with her experience.  She didn’t have to leave her job to take her classes, and neither will I.  I’m eager to start the program.
