Why You Need a Link Building Campaign

A good link building campaign can make or break your website and/or your business.  Why?  Because the number of high quality links you have determines how visible your website is on the Web.

The listing of websites that you get when Google a word or a phrase isn’t random.  In order to land on the first page of search results, websites have to be two things: relevant, and important.  Relevance is determined by the placement of keywords — the same, or similar, keywords as were used in the user’s search.  A website’s importance, on the other hand, is determined by how many links point to the website from other sites.

The job of an advanced link building campaign is to generate links pointing back to your site from other websites.  Not just any site can provide a quality link, however: In order for a link to boost your site’s importance, it has to come from another site that is considered important.  For example, a link to your site from Joe Schmoe’s blog is going to have next to no impact on your search engine ranking.  A link from a major site in your industry, however, indicates to the search engines that your website must be pretty good to get such an important site’s attention.

Link building does not happen overnight, of course.  Moreover, an effective link building campaign requires a lot of time and effort — not to mention specialized knowledge of online marketing.  For this reason, many website owners decide to go with a link building company, leaving them to concentrate on their customers.
