Preparation for a Golf Career
By swan480 on Oct 15, 2007 in Business, Careers, Education
Just like any other type of skilled job, a golf career requires an education.
In the same way that a med student has to learn to be a doctor or a law student is learn how to be an attorney, having had formal golf instruction demonstrates to employers that you know what it takes to work in the golf industry. Many golf course jobs are best served by someone with an education in golf. For instance:
- Selling golf equipment requires that you know the purpose of each club.
- Tending golf course grounds requires that you understand how environmental factors such as grass can affect players.
- Caddying requires that you understand the game well enough to know which club a player needs, and what other tips you should give him to improve his game.
- Teaching golf requires that you know every little nuance of the name, particularly if you plan on instructing intermediate and expert players.
- Managing a golf course requires that you understand the golf business as a whole: the game, as well as the industry.
Skilled workers are becoming more and more necessary, particularly in specialty industries such as the golf industry. Make sure you get a leg up on your competition by getting a golf degree.
